“Homage to Tara, the Swift One, the Heroine, whose eyes are like a flash of lightning, who arose from the opening of a lotus, born from the tears of the Protector of the Three Worlds.” – Liberation from Sorrow: Praises and Requests to the Twenty-one Taras

An empowerment is a special blessing ceremony with guided meditations, offerings, and a little bit of traditional ritual, which functions to heal our mental continuum and to ripen our Buddha Nature. Each different empowerment introduces us to a particular Buddhist Deity, opening the door to the practice of that Deity, their meditations and mantra. The particular Deity we will be introduced to in this empowerment is the female Buddha of wisdom and swift active compassion, enlightened mother Arya Green Tara. Since she is a wisdom Buddha, and since she is a manifestation of the completely purified wind element, Tara is able to help us very quickly.

Gen Kelsang Norbu received his first Green Tara empowerment in 2007 from Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong. Since then, Gen Norbu has completed personal meditation retreats on Tara and other Deities numerous times, and has granted the empowerments of Tara twice before, here in Fort Lauderdale. Gen Norbu was ordained as a monk in the New Kadampa Tradition of Buddhism in 2006 by the modern Buddhist master Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche.
