“In particular, to liberate all living beings from the cycle of contaminated rebirth, samsara, I will accomplish as quickly as possible a Buddha’s enlightenment. For this purpose I will engage in the practice of Venerable White Tara.” – The Yoga of White Tara, Buddha of Long Life
An empowerment is a very special blessing ceremony that functions to heal our mental continuum and awaken our Buddha nature. Each empowerment introduces us to a particular enlightened Deity, their meditations and mantras. The particular enlightened Deity to which we will be introduced in this empowerment is White Tara. White Tara is a female enlightened being whose function is to bestow long life, wisdom, and good fortune. If we rely upon her with faith, she will protect us from contagious diseases, the dangers of fire, and other disasters.
It is said that living beings receive Tara’s blessings as swiftly as the wind moves because she is the manifestation of the wind element of all Buddhas.
Gen Kelsang Norbu first received White Tara empowerment in 2006. Since then, Gen Norbu has completed many meditational retreats on White Tara and other deities, and has granted this empowerment once before, here in Fort Lauderdale. Gen Norbu was ordained as a monk in the New Kadampa Tradition of Buddhism in 2006, by the modern Buddhist master Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. He earned the title ‘Gen’ in 2012, indicating that he is a senior ordained teacher in this tradition.
