Commentary: 2:15-3:45pm
The Yoga of Buddha Maitreya: 4:15-5pm

“Especially through my meditation on the three aspects of love, may I always care for all living beings without exception, be free from outer and inner obstructing maras, and attain the state of the Buddha of Loving Kindness.” – The Yoga of Buddha Maitreya

An empowerment is a very special blessing ceremony that functions to heal our mental continuum and awaken our Buddha nature. Each empowerment introduces us to a particular enlightened Deity, their meditations and mantras. The particular enlightened Deity to which we will be introduced in this empowerment is Buddha Maitreya. Maitreya is the manifestation of all the Buddhas’ realization of loving kindness. His function is to guide us along the stages of the path to enlightenment.

Through relying upon Buddha Maitreya with faith we will receive this Buddha’s special care, and he will bestow upon us the realizations of Kadam Lamrim through which we can solve our own and others’ problems, and fulfill our own and others’ wishes.

Gen Kelsang Norbu first received Buddha Maitreya empowerment in 2009 from Ven. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. Since then, Gen Norbu has completed many meditational retreats on Maitreya and other deities, and has granted this empowerment once before, here in Fort Lauderdale. Gen Norbu was ordained as a monk in the New Kadampa Tradition of Buddhism in 2006, by the modern Buddhist master Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. He earned the title ‘Gen’ in 2012, indicating that he is a senior ordained teacher in this tradition.
