“If we really want pure and everlasting happiness and freedom from misery, we must learn to control our mind, principally our desire.” – How to Transform Your Life, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Every living being has the same basic wish – to be happy and avoid suffering. Although all living beings have the same basic wish to be happy all the time, very few people understand the real causes of happiness. Happiness and suffering are states of mind, and so their main causes are not to be found outside the mind. If we want to be truly happy and free from suffering, we must learn how to control our mind.

These classes will introduce the basic Buddhist teachings and meditations for inner peace, understanding death, rebirth, and karma. Start at the beginning of the series if you can, but if you miss the beginning, then start when you are able. Recommended reading: How to Transform Your Life by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. “If you have only effort you have all attainments, but if you have only laziness you have nothing.” – Buddha, quoted in How to Transform Your Life, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

We all want to be happy all the time, and we never want to suffer. Unfortunately, we create a lot of unnecessary suffering for ourselves and others. We need to understand more clearly how to create happiness, not suffering. These classes will teach us simple practices for doing this. By meditating on these practices, they will become more powerful, stable, and familiar.
