“May the maras – the outer and inner obstructing demons – be quickly and completely pacified, and may all living beings swiftly become Conqueror Buddhas like Shakyamuni Buddha.” - The Yoga of Great Mother Prajnaparamita

An empowerment is a very special blessing ceremony that functions to heal our mental continuum and awaken our Buddha nature. Each empowerment introduces us to a particular enlightened Deity, their meditations and mantras. The particular enlightened Deity to which we will be introduced in this empowerment is Prajnaparamita. Great Mother Prajnaparamita is a female Buddha who is the manifestation of Buddha’s perfection of wisdom. Her function is to overcome maras – the outer and inner obstructing demons – and to bestow the realization of the higher perfection of wisdom.

Wisdom is a virtuous intelligent mind whose function is to dispel the inner darkness of ignorance. Normally we do not understand the real nature of things. This is ignorance. Moreover, we do not understand that suffering comes from non-virtuous actions and happiness from virtuous actions. This too is ignorance. Because of this ignorance, even though we do not want to suffer we create our own suffering by performing non-virtuous actions. And although we want to be happy all the time we destroy our own happiness by developing anger, negative views and wrong intentions.

Now is the time to abandon ignorance permanently because we have a precious human life and have met Buddhadharma. The only method to abandon our ignorance and attain the supreme happiness of enlightenment is to accomplish the perfection of wisdom in general, and especially the higher perfection of wisdom.

Gen Kelsang Norbu first received Prajnaparamita empowerment when Ven. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche first granted it in 2008 in Paris, and again when Ven. Geshe-la granted it in 2013 in Portugal. Since then, Gen Norbu has completed several retreats on Prajnaparamita, and has granted this empowerment twice before, here in Fort Lauderdale. Gen Norbu was ordained as a monk in the New Kadampa Tradition of Buddhism in 2006, by the modern Buddhist master Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. He earned the title ‘Gen’ in 2012, indicating that he is a senior ordained teacher in this tradition.
