    Saturday Workshop June 1 10:00 am – 12:45 pm
This morning workshop will include practical instruction and guided meditations on the very blessed and inspiring practice of Guru Yoga, or relying upon a Spiritual Guide.
All schools of Buddhism agree that the practice of relying upon a spiritual guide, is the root of the spiritual path and the foundation of all spiritual attainments. We can understand this from our ordinary experiences. For example if we want to acquire special skills, become proficient at a particular sport, or learn to play a musical instrument well, we naturally seek a qualified teacher to instruct us. By following a teacher’s example and sincerely applying his or her instructions, eventually we accomplish our aim and become just like our teacher. If reliance upon a qualified teacher is necessary for mundane achievements, how much more necessary is it for spiritual attainments such as liberation and enlightenment? ~ Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Great Treasury of Merit
By practicing the instructions given in the course, we will be able to quickly and easily purify negativity, accumulate a great deal of positive energy in our mind, and activate our potential for spiritual growth and realization.
Just as in our ordinary education we need to rely upon the help of well-qualified teachers, so in the spiritual training that leads to full enlightenment we need to rely upon a well-qualified Spiritual Guide. ~ Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Joyful Path of Good Fortune

In this morning workshop, Gen Jindak will explain the Buddhist perspective on death, how we can prepare ourself and how to help others who are dying.

Many people have the altruistic wish to benefit others, but few understand how to accomplish this successfully in daily life. Bodhisattvas are friends of the world, which means that they care about all living beings. Through the force of their strong compassion, they engage in six special practices, called the six perfections, that enable them to transform all their activities into methods for helping and benefiting everyone. I'm Still not Happy!  What am I Doing Wrong?!   |   May Series
We often ask ourselves this question after we’ve set ourselves up with all of the comforts we thought we would need to be happy…a well paying job that we enjoy, comfortable living conditions, a successful relationship or two etc. We often think we are doing something wrong, or worse, that something is wrong with us when we continue to feel dissatisfied and unhappy in spite of all of the external “wealth” we have accumulated. In this four-week course we will explore the true nature of our dissatisfaction and learn new ways of thinking that will empower us to create the inspired life we often wish we had.
Everyone is welcome – regardless of background or experience!

Meditations to Make Our Life Happy and Meaningful  |  May & June
This series is a practical guide to meditation that teaches us how to develop inner peace and make our lives more meaningful. Without inner peace there is no real happiness at all. Problems, suffering and unhappiness do not exist outside the mind; they are feelings and thus part of our mind. Therefore, it is only by controlling our mind that we can permanently stop our problems and make ourself and others truly happy. Buddhist Meditations for Overcoming Stress  |  May & June
According to Buddha, stress does not come from external situations but rather from our response to them. In other words, it comes from our mind. By learning how to “drop out” of a stressed mind and into a clear and peaceful one we can learn to respond to problems differently, in a more centered, flexible and effective way. Buddha’s profound insights into the mind uncover where our stressful response comes from, and show how we can gain new perspectives on our difficulties and respond skillfully and peacefully. All drop-in meditation classes are free for monthly supporting members.
